Are you on Twitter? If you’ve spent the last six months as a Bond villain’s captive in some subterranean lair, and have no idea what the eff Twitter is, here’s an intro to Twitter.

Once you’ve signed up, and need some people to follow, check out Mashable’s list of 90+ comedians on Twitter:

They say “laughter is the best medicine,” so it’s probably wise to do it as much possible. What better way to get a steady stream of laugh-inducing content than via Twitter?

Despite what Mashable says, most comedians don’t actually fill their Twitter stream with nothing but jokes. There are some funny nuggets sprinkled in there, but they largely use it to keep followers informed about their appearances, TV specials, recent blog posts, etc. As Joe Rogan has pointed out, Twitter is a superb tool for maintaining a connection to fans, and comedians today are lucky to have it at their disposal (“Back in the day, what are you going to do? Answer mail? And lick envelopes and get stamps? Fuck that shit.”).

The jury’s still out on how useful Twitter is in building a following. I suspect that it helps—everything does—but that more traditional marketing and networking efforts remain the key in the early going. Go ahead and follow me on Twitter, and I’ll let you know what I discover. :)
