Are you reading anything interesting this summer?
If not, consider joining the Infinite Summer Challenge, in which readers from around the world tackle a modern masterpiece by one of America’s greatest authors:
Join endurance bibliophiles from around the world in reading Infinite Jest
over the summer of 2009, June 21st to September 22nd. A thousand pages รท 92 days = 75 pages a week. No sweat.
Infinite Jest was written by David Foster Wallace, who tragically took his own life last year after a long battle with depression. He’s also one of my literary idols, largely on the strength of his nonfiction work.1
My first attempt to scale Mt. Infinite foundered around page 350, largely because it was interrupted by a month-long trip earlier this year. This is not a book that can be easily lugged around while traveling, so I lost my mo’ and ended up reading some other books in the meantime. This is why I’m definitely going to buy a Kindle 7, or whatever the futuristic equivalent is, when I’m a filthy rich celebrity comedian.
