Our first black President has nominated the first Latina Supreme Court Justice, and the usual suspects have gone a little batshit in response.
All the whining about whether Sotomayor’s background will have an undue influence on her legal decisions reflects classic unrecognized white privilege. Do we say these same things about white nominees? After all, who could possibly deny that simply being born white confers tremendous advantages from the get-go?
