Colin Quinn is a stand-up comedian and actor, best known for anchoring SNL’s Weekend Update and starring in Comedy Central’s Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. He’s also well-known among comedians for his funny, insightful contributions to the commentary track on Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedian.
Via Scott Berkun, I saw that Quinn recently shared a story about a hell gig, where he was asked to do some time at Robert DeNiro’s birthday party and ended up bombing spectacularly in front of a bunch of celebrities. The story itself is a hilarious ten minutes:
I love when he talks about how, when you’re bombing, you start saying things out of sequence. So true. It’s like your conscious mind enters fight-or-flight mode and turns the proceedings over to your subconscious, which just starts babbling uncontrollably. The eerie part is that you’re still watching it all happen from the co-pilot’s seat, but feel powerless to do anything about it as your fiery wreckage of a set goes crashing to the ground.
