This is exciting news for Seattle comedy: Laughs Comedy Spot in Kirkland is now doing a second open mic per week, on Wednesday nights. In an interesting new twist, the first part of the program (7p – 8:45p) is dedicated to young ‘uns with a yen to be funny:

That’s right minors, it’s summer and there’s nothin’ to do!
Are you the class clown?
Are you destined for stardom?

What a great way to spend a Wednesday night! All ages are welcome!

Laughs is committed to helping and developing talent of all ages. Some of the best comedians began their careers as teenagers.

Want a fun, clean, safe environment to practice stand-up comedy? Learn from the pros. Then check out the open mic! Our famous starving artist menu with prices starting at just 2 dollars. Admission to the Laughs Comedy Spot Comedy Open Mic is always free! It’s a great date night or a place to just hang with friends.

Space is limited!
1st time performers must attend Comedy orientation at 6:30pm.

Want advice? Need a starting point? Want to know the ins and outs of the comedy biz? Check out Laughs Comedy 101 (orientation) Wednesday 6:30pm to 7pm…. This is summer school for the class clown.

What a fun program. Would I have discovered my love of stand-up earlier in life if this had existed when I was in high school, during the paleolithic era? Who knows. But it’s exciting to see that other kids will get this kind of opportunity.

This is really far-sighted of the management at Laughs, too. What better way to ensure a strong future for comedy in Seattle than by building up a deep bench of talent, starting with teenagers?

Everyone else, please take note: I have it on good authority that the kids will get kicked out and the bar will open at 9pm, when the second half of the open mic begins. The Laughs Starving Artist Menu has prices starting at $2, and admission to the show is free, so it’s a perfect value for your recession-battered dollar. Drop by and see me perform tonight at Laughs — I’m the one wearing the bandanna!
